HUD-VASH Program

Overview

The HUD-VASH Program is a collaborative partnership between   HUD, VASH, and the GHA.

The HUD-VASH Program is a collaborative partnership between HUD, which provides Housing Choice Section 8 Vouchers, the Veterans Administration, which provides Supportive Housing (VASH) through case management and supportive services for eligible homeless veterans and the GHA, which distributes the vouchers. This therapeutic program provides permanent independent housing for eligible homeless veterans.

If you are a Homeless Veteran and eligible for VA Health Care, the HUD-VASH Program may be able to help you.  This program offers case management through a VA Social Worker and permanent housing through the Public Housing Authority.

To qualify:

  • You must be homeless, on the street, living in your car, abandoned building, or emergency shelters.
  •
  • You must be residing in a transitional housing program, but homeless prior to entry, or at risk of being homeless or pending eviction.
The Veteran must need and be willing to participate in case management services.  This means, you must work with a VA Social Worker on a variety of issues that can include mental health, addiction, education, and employment.  The goal is to obtain and maintain housing.

The Veteran will be expected to maintain compliance with their treatment plan by actively communicating with their Social Worker, keeping scheduled appointments, and following recommendations from your treatment team.

  • A Valid ID or driver’s license
  • Social Security Card
  • Birth Certificate
  • Marriage License
  • Documentation of Homelessness
  • If family members will live with veteran, they will need to provide information noted above
