The Oaks Phase IV Quick Facts
- A phase I Environmental site assessment was completed by Bay Environmental Services and found no areas of environmental concern. They recommended no further action.
- An Environmental Review process was completed and the Project was approved by HUD and City of Galveston for construction.
- The construction contract was awarded to the Houston construction firm Guaranteed Builders. The official construction start date is 5/24/2010 and the projected completion date is 5/23/2011
- Galveston Housing Authority (GHA) is proposing to build 40 elderly Public Housing Units with the Replacement Housing Factor funds (RHF) available to GHA. The venue of these units will be approximately 4.25 acres of land vacated by the demolition of Palm Terrace Annex destroyed by hurricane Ike.
- The plan is to build 20 duplexes containing 40 one bed room public housing units to be rented out to senior citizens. These units will be one bed room with a living and dining room and kitchen. They will have front and back porches. All units will be wheel chair accessible. It will be similar to the housing in The Oaks I built at Old Palm Terrace site. These duplexes will be energy efficient construction with adequate parking and green spaces and will be easily accessible for the residents. The Project is designed by the Houston firm Rey de la Reza Architects.
- The approximate cost of construction will be around $3,570,000. The accumulated RHF funds will be utilized for the construction of these units. The construction will be supervised by GHA with assistance from the Architects. GHA's experienced staff has recently completed several similar projects successfully
