With a six to one vote, the Galveston City Council gave approval for the Oaks IV development plan. Once it is constructed, the Oaks Phase IV will consist of twenty duplexes, forty units, of quality  affordable housing for seniors. The GHA is currently waiting for the Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) final approval on the plan.

In preparation for a public hearing on the development, notification letters will be mailed to land owners within one-fourth of a mile of the proposed development.  In addition to the letters, signs have been placed around the proposed site advising the community of the date and time of the public comment session.   That session will take place at the GHA Board meeting scheduled at 5:00pm on April 12, 2010 at the Island Community Center in Galveston.

The March 11, 2010 City Council vote constitutes a very positive step to provide an adequate supply of safe, affordable housing for Galveston citizens.   The GHA is committed to pursuing new and creative ways to meet the changing housing needs of the diverse population of the City of Galveston. The GHA is dedicated to creating safe, viable and vibrant communities for a broad-based market founded on transition and hope.
