The Galveston Housing Authority, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), will host an Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing Conference, Thursday, February 18, 2010 from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the Island Community Center. The event is free to the public.
The conference will focus on the legal requirements of Fair Housing Laws, and initiatives to affirmatively further fair housing in the community and what it entails. The conference will also highlight National Fair Housing Best Practices. The conference will open with a Welcome and Greeting from City of Galveston, Mayor Lyda Ann Thomas. Speakers for the day will include Gary Sweeney, Director, Ft. Worth, Texas, Regional Office, Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity, Sue Tarver, Director, Houston Field Office, Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO), U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Sue Sere, Supervising Attorney, Lone Star Legal Aid, and Sterling Patrick, Director of Grants and Housing, City of Galveston.
The Conference will be informative, educational, and offer a question and answer session following the presentations.
It is the mission of the GHA to be a leader and work in partnership with other agencies to enhance the quality of life of all persons of low to moderate income in the city.
