In a 6 to 1 vote, the Galveston Planning Commission gave approval for the Oaks IV development. Once it is built, The Oaks Phase IV will consist of twenty duplexes providing quality low cost housing for seniors. The Planning Commission’s recommendation will be forwarded to the Galveston City Council in their February 25th, 2010 meeting.

The GHA is also moving forward with a new Lease to Home Ownership Program. This is a program that many have wanted to see happen for decades. Through this program, GHA will create home ownership opportunities on the Island for working families. As a result, individuals such as nurses, administrative staff, those who work to support Galveston’s tourism industry, and even students will be able to call the island home.

This innovative new program enhances the mission of the GHA in advancing people to self sufficiency and home ownership. The GHA will be inviting realtors and bank officials to learn more about the program within the next 30 days.
