The Galveston Housing Authority Board of Commissioners unanimously approved additional modernization activities at the 199-unit Gulf Breeze senior apartment complex located at 1211 21st Street in Galveston.

Floors 6, 7, and 8 of Gulf Breeze are currently being renovated to include asbestos abatement, floor and ceiling replacement, new cabinets and appliances, bath room renovations, new paint, window replacements and new A/C units. It is anticipated that the modernization work on floor 8 will be completed with occupancy by mid March 2010 and the work on floors 6 and 7 will be complete by May 2010.

A contract was also awarded for the modernization of the ceilings, floors, cabinets and appliances of floors 2, 3, 4 and 5. This work is scheduled to begin in April 2010 with the modernization of the 5^th floor. Additionally, old sewer lines in the first floor will be replaced.

When all of the work is completed, residents on those floors will enjoy brand new air conditioning units, flooring, cabinetry, kitchen appliances, fixtures and other necessary improvements.
