GHA employees of Holland House and Gulf Breeze will be receiving Mental First Aid training courtesy of The Gulf Coast Center. Mental Health First Aid is the help offered to a person developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. Mental health problems are common; but unfortunately most are simply not well informed about mental health problems, how to respond, or how to provide assistance and referral. Mental Health First Aid is the initial help given to someone experiencing a mental health problem – either a crisis situation or when a person is developing a mental illness – before appropriate treatment and support are obtained.

This type of training will be useful not only in daily interaction with GHA residents but also with the stress experienced during an evacuation due to a hurricane. With this training, GHA employees will have the skills to indentify and respond to mental health issues.
